The Project

Partners - these are the organisations involved in the regeneration of Walker Riverside

The Walker Riverside Project Team and all of the partners involved are here to help you whether you are a current resident, an employer, a local service provider, member of a voluntary or community group or someone looking to move into the area.

In February 2002, through competitive tender, Newcastle City Council appointed Places for People (PfP), as their strategic regeneration partner for the Walker Riverside Regeneration Programme. Bridging NewcastleGateshead, Bellway and NomadE5 are also key partners in the regeneration of Walker Riverside.

Newcastle City Council
This ambitious project is co-ordinated by Newcastle City Council. Newcastle City Council and Places for People began the regeneration of Walker Riverside in 2002 with a series of events that were attended by local residents keen to have their say on how their area could be regenerated. These placemaking events were followed by the appointment of Places for People as the council's regeneration partner. Following the placemaking events 3 regeneration options were drawn up by the council and these were to form the basis of a 6 week consultation exercise in September 2005. The people who responded to the consultation choose option 3 - maximum change and investment for the Walker Riverside area. Option 3 formed the basis for the Walker Riverside Area Action Plan which was submitted to the City Council in July 2006 and adopted. The Area Action Plan is was then given government approval by the Secretary of State. Telephone 0191 2777873 or visit the website for more information.
