Plans
The developments in Walker Riverside are spread across the area as you can see on the area map. The project is not just about building houses. It also aims to establish a new centre for the area, known as the Heart of Walker, by improving current facilities, improving transport and pedestrian links, creating a multi use building for community organisations, developing a shopping centre and encouraging new businesses to set up in Walker Riverside.
Planning Documents
Newcastle City Council has produced and adopted two planning documents that will influence and guide development within the regeneration area. Documents which have been adopted by the Council include:-
- Walker Riverside Area Action Plan
- Walker Riverside Design Code
Newcastle City Council adopted the Walker Riverside Area Action Plan on 4 April 2007 as a local development plan document within the city's Local Development Framework. The main proposals of the Area Action Plan can be seen on this map.
On the 17th May 2007 the Planning and Transportation Strategy Committee approved the Walker Riverside Design Code Supplementary Planning Document.The Walker Riverside Design Code Supplementary Planning Document provides detailed design guidance for all development within the area of the Walker Riverside Area Action Plan DPD.
The Heart of Walker Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was adopted by Newcastle City Council on 26th March 2009. The SPD adds detail to the aspirations set out in the Walker Riverside AAP.
